In this reading guiding, teen entrepreneur and literacy advocate Sidney Keys III assembles a must-have reading list for black boys inspired by the Books N Bros book club.
The idea started when Sidney's mother took him to a black-owned bookstore in St. Louis, Missouri. Amazed by seeing a world of books by authors of color, Sidney wanted to share the experience with boys like himself. At ten-years-old, he created Books N Bros for boys in his community to strengthen bonds and their love of reading. The idea caught on, and Sidney and the book club became a national sensation.
The Books N Bros reading guide features over 40 book reviews by some of the biggest names in literature including Jason Reynolds, Angie Thomas, Nic Stone, Ty Allan Jackson, Kekla Magoon, and others. Sidney shares personal stories behind why the books were originally selected for the book cub, what the books are about, and why they are important for boys of color to read. The book divides the reviews by category and covers a range of fun and important topics from race to neighborhood adventures to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and entrepreneurship (making money). It also features fun facts and side notes about the authors.
Books N Bros is an essential reading list that empowers, makes reading fun, and expands literary imaginations.
